About Delray Beach, Florida
Delray Beach is a larger medium-sized coastal city (i.e. on the ocean, a bay, or inlet) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 67,371 people and 35 constituent neighborhoods, Delray Beach is the 41st largest community in Florida.
Delray Beach is also nautical, which means that parts of it are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and bays. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.
History of Delray Beach FL
1894: In anticipation of Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway, U.S. Congressman William S. Linton buys some land in what is now Delray, naming the town for himself.
1895: Linton’s first commissary opens, with Seminoles among the people who came to trade.
1897: Black settlers establish Mt.Tabor, the precursor to the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church.
1898: The U. S. Post Office changes the town’s name to Delray.
1902: The Inn hotel and McRae’s Pharmacy open.
1904: The Ladies Improvement Association builds the Town Hall. Wuepper’s General Store opens near to it two years later.
